Repeated crashing on day 11. I’m running Chrome under Ubuntu. Email me to tell me what file you’d like to see and I’ll email it to you.

Hm… This page has info on collecting Chrome crash data. Any of that stuff that you can collect and send to michael[at]doublespeakgames[dot]com would be great. Thanks!

The game won’t load on my machine, I get the logo and the loading animation stays forever. I’m running Firefox 31.0 on Ubuntu. If it helps, here is the output of Firefox’s console (sorry for French):

    L'utilisation de « getUserData() » ou « setUserData() » est obsolète. Utiliser « WeakMap » ou « element.dataset » à la place. requestNotifier.js:63
Using //@ to indicate sourceMappingURL pragmas is deprecated. Use //# instead jquery.min.js:1
SecurityError: The operation is insecure. app.js:1
    L'utilisation de « getPreventDefault() » est obsolète. Utiliser « defaultPrevented » à la place. jquery.min.js:5

Thanks for your answer. I am indeed using Adblock Plus, and disabling it (as well as all other plug-ins) does remove the first error message, which is what this jQuery bug report is about. But this does not remove the other three messages, nor does it allow Gridland to load succesfully.

For more precision, the only “Error” message is “SecurityError: The operation is insecure. app.js:1”. The other ones are Warnings.

Okay, I got it to work by using another user profile. Not sure what’s wrong with mine. Sorry for the trouble ! Great game, btw 🙂

I’m hitting this issue with Chrome. The very first time I loaded the game, it worked fine. I accidentally hit refresh on it while trying to refresh another page, and now I’m getting the same behavior listed above. It ran fine with adblock plus the first time, but after seeing the solution offered above, I disabled it, to no avail.

Can you send me an email (michael [at] doublespeakgames [dot] com) with any information that might help me debug? Error messages from the developer console, etc.

The screen loads and the saves appear but the game plays in the background. After I click one of the save files (new games), another man appears and once I swap tiles, some of them do not reappear and hangs. I cant interact anymore.

Whoooooa. What the heck is http://www.teddybrinkofski.com/vv/scan/us? Looks like you’ve got some external scripts running. I would guess plugins, but you said you had them disabled. What do you mean that you “have ads”?

Edit: That script from terrybrinkofski.com that you’re running is tracking you whenever you visit sports-related sites. It’s probably bad juju and you should find a way to get rid of it.

A few issues that I have with Gridland:

    – on my iPhone 5 it’s really hard to choose the right item (potions/weapons) during battle. Maybe there should be more space between the buttons, or possibly you could make them bigger?

    – Generally, it feels like you haven’t made the full use of available space, especially on mobile devices. Everything could be at least a tad bigger. It would be also nice, if on smartphones, the elements of the browser interface such as the address bar were hidden.

    – The core gameplay is really cool, but I hope you’ll add new features to Gridland (or to its sequel) in the future. For example, more advanced economy, new weapons, maybe some quests, skills etc. Yup, and I’m ready to pay for your game. 🙂

Thank you so much for this awesome game and keep up good work!

Designing a game to be responsive to all possible screen resolutions is hard, man!

I don’t think I can get rid of the browser interface myself, but if you add Gridland to your homescreen it will run as an application with no browser interface.

I’d love to add more content, believe me. I have a bunch of stuff planned…

Sometimes, when I click the magic orb to cast something, I don’t actually get the select screen, but instead it just executes a spell. About 2/3 of the time it’s the one I wanted anyway (time stop), but it’s still unsettling, and an accidental switch to nighttime isn’t really ideal in the endgame.

        I’ve seen this bug too.

One more issue, during the fight with the dragon, when you are frozen, the block of ice doesn’t always cover your character, but instead it stands empty on the battlefield.

I found a glitch, if you have your mana full and you click just above the button but not quite in the grid, it will change the time.

I noticed some issues with Gridland after updating my iPhone 5 to iOS 8:

    – In the menu, the Gridland logo is covered by the “New Game” buttons.

    – Sometimes, you can’t see how many potions and weapons you have (there is one empty black indicator instead of three white)

    – From time to time, a monster health bar leaves a trace of little lines behind it.

    – When you switch tabs in Safari, you may see the day tiles rendered over the night tiles (this problem was also present on iOS 7).

    – You better thoroughly test Gridland on iOS 8, I’m afraid there are even more bugs.

Apple, what have you done! 🙁

Unfortunately, I don’t have access to an iOS8 device to test on. Sounds like Apple made mobile Safari even worse than it was before. An amazing feat, to be sure.

Yup, I was right, there are even more iOS 8 bugs!

        – the magic orb is completely broken (you can only stop time)

        – the purple crystal making the night longer doesn’t seem to work (although here I’m not sure)

        – I’ve also seen monsters going past my character (very rare, might also be present on iOS 7)

I hope you’ll be able to check out these issues very soon.

I literally cannot. I don’t have access to an iOS8 device, and I’m not likely to get one in the near future. Sorry!

Hi. This is so fun and addictive :-p
Everything is working perfectly for me, both on the pc and my android phone.
The only bug I’ve come across is one which already have been said; when casting the spell, it sometimes doesn’t open the spell menu and casts the clock-thingy automatically.

    Michael,

I just found Gridland in an article that Kotaku published. Finally, a match 3 game that I fucking LOVE! That doesn’t have lives to make me wait 10 minutes to play. For the love of God, please PLEASE put this on the iOS app store. Throwing money at the screen isn’t working. As I have read, you’re incredibly busy with other things and as much as I would love to see new content added to Gridland, just keep up the good work! I’m eagerly waiting to throw my money at you.

For IOS, all you need to do to make an app is add cache manifest to the site very much in the same fashion Candy Box 2 does. As for Android and Windows Phones… Well let’s just say you had the right idea there.

Porting Gridland to mobile will require more than just wrapping the web application in an app context (this was my original plan). Unfortunately, the DOM rendering that I use for the web version of Gridland is too taxing for many mobile devices. A full port of Gridland is in the works, but it’ll be a while.

Any tips for surviving the night late-game (I’m on Day 22+)? I am getting absolutely crushed and I have no real control over it because of all the cascading matches.

Day 20-ish is where the monsters start to get serious. Play the night-time board much more carefully and try to avoid cascades. Make sure you’re prepared for the cascades that you can’t avoid by stocking up on weapons and bombs. Good luck!

umm….I have a Dragon orb thing a lich dropped.
Is it supposed to do something when I click it? Because it doesn’t :-/
    No dragon…no effect at all.
Am I missing something or is it a bug?

It should definitely do something. Browser/version/OS? Are there any errors in the console? Email me at michael[at]doublespeakgames[dot]com with as much info as you can gather.

Got a funny glitch (this is the very first time it’s happened) – the stick figure went to pick up one of the blocks, but then for some reason it turned back and picked up another block as well. And now the first block is perpetually stuck to the character’s side!

As much as I can’t stop laughing at how it looks, I thought you might want to know about that little bug. Otherwise, awesome game!

Weird! Browser/OS? Did you do anything in particular (or see anything in particular) right before it happened? Can you make it happen again? Any details you can give me will help track it down. Thanks!

It was on Google Chrome (my laptop’s OS is Windows 7). I remember that one of the buildings was close to being upgraded – it just needed one block left – though I’m not sure what exactly happened to cause it (besides maybe having two blocks completed at nearly the same time, and the one I needed was the one that eventually got stuck to the character).
I could try recreating it and see what happened there.

Hmm – I tried to recreate it, but the glitch didn’t happen again. I’m guessing it might have been some lag on the part of my browser.
In any case, I still have some pictures saved from when it happened yesterday.

Gridland needs some sort of explanation. After trying for hours to frustratingly get though the early day 20’s, I’m realizing that I have to start over due to know realizing how the game works. Huge waste of time.

I’m going crazy trying to figure out the game rules.

In daytime: The bigger you can clear, the “better”. Small clears costs you health, big clears give you health.

But: You can “click” on a building to highlight it. I don’t know what it does. I can’t figure out the relation between what you clear and what happens to your town.

Each “move” advances the sun one stop. Do nothing long enough, and the sun advances, and you’ve lost a move. Rapid moves do not help; slow, thoughtful moves do.

At night: Clearing 3 shields gives you a shield; clearing three swords gives you a sword. These do NOT advance the night. Clearing three “rips” makes a nasty attack wave (and advances time); clearing three … I don’t know what to call them gives a weak attack wave. Eventually, there’s something for skeletons, and webs for spiders. You can clear while an attack is in progress to refresh your shield / sword.

There’s things at the bottom; one is spare shield, one is +2 health, and I am not sure of the third.

The rest of the game? Help? What determines if you get a treasure chest or not?
